Greater Danville Chamber of Commerce Receives Innovation Awards
The Greater Danville Chamber of Commerce was recognized with two Innovation Excellence Awards from the Indiana Chamber Executives Association (ICDA). One award was for their 'Tour of the Town' program promoting local businesses and community engagement. The second award, shared with Avon and Plainfield chambers, was for the 'NextGen Chamber' initiative focused on developing future leaders. These awards highlight the chamber's commitment to innovation, partnership, and strengthening the local business community.
Town to Sell Surplus Property on West Clinton
The council granted permission to put the property at 353 West Clinton on the market for sale. This property was purchased with the intent to expand the fire station, but since the fire chief decided to build the station at Miles Farm, the property is no longer needed for that purpose. The town will also be selling two other properties: 302 West Main and a property on South Tennessee. The process for selling will likely involve a sealed bid auction or a real estate auction, considered the most transparent method, or potentially transferring them to the redevelopment commission.
Council Member Proposes Work Study for Capital Planning and Space Efficiency
A council member proposed a work study session to discuss capital planning, including two new fire stations, potential use of Station 91 and 92, and the police department's interest in a public safety building. The goal is to ensure all buildings and spaces are used efficiently and that everyone is on the same page. A joint meeting between the council and fire territory board is scheduled for July 1st at 6 PM, which may address some of these topics. Chief Duncan also requested to be added to the agenda for July 1st to create a committee for the fire stations. The council member expressed concern about maintaining empty spaces like half of Town Hall and ensuring efficient utilization of existing and planned facilities.
Fire Station Roof Replacement Approved
The council approved a capital expenditure request of $54,498.20 to replace the roof at fire station 192, located on Shady Lane. The current roof is approximately 26 years old and the original roof for the station. Inspections did not reveal any storm or hail damage that would qualify for insurance coverage, necessitating the expenditure from the budget.
Lease Approved for Fire Department Ladder Truck
The council voted to approve a lease for a ladder truck. This approval is necessary to complete the application for the ladder truck to be sent over for processing. The fire territory board and legal counsel have reviewed and approved the lease agreement.
