Avon Town Council Receives Updates on Development, Budget, and Upcoming Events
The Town Council meeting included updates from council liaisons. Steve Eisenbarth reported on the Redevelopment Authority and Redevelopment Commission meetings, noting approved invoices and upcoming budget discussions. Greg Zusen provided an update from the Planning Commission, which approved the Fairfield Section 5 PUD, and continued the hearing for Nirvana Sports waivers. Council President Jason Puckett reminded attendees about the town's closure on July 3rd, the upcoming 4th of July event at the park with fireworks, and the next council meeting on July 9th, which will include a work session on the budget.
Avon Town Council Welcomes Two New Police Officers
The Town Council meeting included a ceremony for swearing in two new police officers, Adam Sajak and Jacob Redmond. The ceremony involved introducing the officers, detailing their backgrounds and military service, and administering the oath of office by Judge Red Stewart. Both officers expressed their commitment to serving the Avon community. The event highlighted the department's growth and dedication to public safety.
Avon Police Department Updates on Solicitor Permits
During the Town Council meeting, the Chief provided an update regarding solicitor permits. Currently, three companies are authorized to solicit within the town: Joink, Weedman, and Vivint (home security). The department conducts background checks on all applicants. Residents were advised to ask solicitors for their permits and to note the names of any solicitors who violate 'no soliciting' signs to report to the town.
Avon Town Council Approves RDC Appointment and Property Damage Release
During the Town Council meeting, a motion was made and approved to appoint Shelby Farthing to the Redevelopment Commission (RDC) to replace Steve Eisenbarth, who had a conflict of interest due to his council position. Farthing is already a member of the Redevelopment Authority (RDA). The council also discussed and approved a property damage release related to a guardrail incident, where the driver's insurance agreed to pay $8,000 for repairs in exchange for a liability release, with assurance that the legal team had reviewed the matter.
