Beer and Liquor License Transfer Approved for Sam's Place to New Location
The council considered an application for a new 2026 Class A retail beer and liquor application for Crowley Sam's bar, DBA Sam's Place, located at 115 North Parkinson Avenue. This application was for a transfer of their existing permits to a new building next door where the establishment will be relocating. After legal counsel confirmed it was a transfer and not a renewal, and after discussion about the appropriate form, the motion to approve the transfer was made by Alderman Corr and seconded by Alderman Reggie. The motion carried.
Handicap Accessible Playground Planned for Levy Park
The Community and Economic Development Committee noted that the Crowley Accessibility Support for the Handicap is seeking approval to build a handicap accessible playground at Levy Park. This item will be placed on the agenda for the June Council meeting to allow for public input.
City Authorizes $300,000 Standby Letter of Credit for Workmen's Compensation
The council approved a resolution authorizing a standby letter of credit from First National Bank of Louisiana for the City of Crowley, not to exceed $300,000, to benefit the Louisiana Office of Workmen's Compensation. The resolution also authorized a non-revolving line of credit up to $300,000, evidenced by a promissory note, and the pledge of an unencumbered certificate of deposit as security. The motion was made by Alderman Dickie Lachele and seconded by Alderman Brad Corr, and passed with all in favor.
Partial Payment Approved for Drainage Improvement Project
The Zoning and Annexation Committee considered and approved partial payment number six to COD Construction of Louisiana LLC for the drainage improvement project for Lawrence Acres and VFW Drive. The payment amount is $121,213.96. The motion to approve was made and carried.
Street Dedication to Sid Wilson Memorial Drive Deferred Pending Public Hearing
The council considered a motion to approve a sign dedicating a block of Avenue D near Moore Street and 4th Street at St. Teresa's Church as Sid Wilson Memorial Drive. The motion was made by Alderman Byron Wildridge and seconded by Alderman Brad Corr. However, Alderman Corr raised concerns about dedicating streets without public input and moved to defer action until a public hearing could be held. After considerable discussion regarding the necessity of a public hearing for street name dedications versus name changes, the council voted to defer action on the proposed dedication. The motion to defer passed with one dissent from Alderman Martin.
