City of Sulphur - Council Meeting - Live Stream (Jun 8, 2026)
Published: Jun 8, 2026
Public Comment Period Features Disputes on Council Rulings and Thanks to Outgoing Members
During public comment, Josh Baden expressed frustration with perceived inconsistencies in council rulings and criticized comparisons made between law enforcement/crime and ordinance issues, likening it to blaming the gun instead of the person. He argued against discrediting the council but asserted his right to speak. He questioned why crime issues weren't reported to law enforcement for increased patrol if they were that severe. He also discussed the property on Post Oak Road, stating the owner (Tim Vaughn) was already redeveloping it and questioning the denial of tax relief. He suggested the comparison of crime rates to rezoning issues was flawed and that the property was grandfathered in before he moved to Gilmore Acres. Council members interrupted him, stating he couldn't discredit the council. Later, Danny DePetta and others thanked the outgoing council members for their service, acknowledging disagreements but emphasizing respectful collaboration and accomplishments.

The proposed rates are necessary to comply with grant requirements and to be eligible for the drinking water revolving loan fund and other state funding. While the rates are set for three years, the new administration can amend or recall the ordinance. The ordinance passed.

The agreement involves a $500,000 total cost, with a 20% city match ($100,000) and a $400,000 grant. The plan will involve consulting work to identify specific streets and develop safety strategies.
