The necessity for open-cut excavation arose due to a change in pipe material (cast iron bells) that could not be burst with the original method. This required exposing existing utilities, including water and gas mains, and using hydro-excavating for safety.
City Secures $6.4 Million in TxDOT Grant for Trail Construction
The council approved a resolution for an advanced funding agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) for the Transportation Alternative Set-Aside Grant. This grant, totaling $6.4 million, will fund the construction of shared-use path trails within the city. The project includes both on-road and off-road segments and is located between Seagleville Road and McKenzie Road. Design is currently at 60%, with construction slated for FY 2027-2028. The funding is 100% reimbursable, meaning the city will be reimbursed after incurring costs.
Billy Watts Appointed Interim Police Chief
The City Council confirmed the appointment of Chief Deputy Billy Watts as interim police chief. This appointment is to serve during the absence of Chief Hurley, in accordance with Texas local government code section 143.013.
