Council Approves Sale of Southern Oregon Sanitation to Waste Connections USA Holdings
The council approved a resolution consenting to the change in assignment of Southern Oregon Sanitation Inc. (SOS) to Waste Connections USA Holdings. This consent is required by the franchise agreement between the city and SOS. Waste Connections USA Holdings is a large national and international company with experience in solid waste services, including in Medford and Jackson County. The franchise agreement dictates that the city cannot unreasonably refuse an assignment to an assignee with sufficient knowledge, experience, and financial resources. The rates charged by SOS will remain the same and are highly regulated, requiring approval from the Solid Waste Agency and council for any increases. The transition is expected to maintain local operations and employment.
