This zone would allow for businesses to participate in a program where patrons can carry open containers onto public streets within designated boundaries during set hours, under local regulations and ABC (Alcoholic Beverage Control) guidelines. The council is seeking two members to work with city staff to define boundaries, hours, and security requirements, with the goal of potentially boosting economic impact for participating businesses. Reading, CA, was cited as a city that has successfully implemented a similar zone.
Councilwoman Coates Appointed to Commission on Aging
The City Council appointed Councilwoman Tony Coates to serve as the City of Shasta Lake representative for the Commission on Aging. The position had been vacant since December 2025. Despite efforts to fill the vacancy through republication, no outside public interest was received. Councilwoman Coates volunteered to fill the two-year term seat, which will next be available in January 2028. The appointment was made by the Mayor.
Annual Assessments Approved for Deer Creek Manor and Shasta Gateway Industrial Park
The City Council held public hearings and approved annual resolutions for the Deer Creek Manor Subdivision District and the Shasta Gateway Industrial Park Assessment District. For Deer Creek Manor, the annual process included landscaping and lighting, as well as drainage and maintenance, with a slight increase in the drainage assessment. For the Shasta Gateway Industrial Park, the assessment district covers landscaping in the main entrance area. Both districts are routine annual procedures with no significant changes from the prior year and no opposition received.
