Measures include specific routing, off-duty police officers for traffic management, and associated costs borne by the applicant. Concerns from neighboring businesses, McDonald's and Chafin Vet, regarding entrance/exit blockages and traffic flow were addressed by the applicant, who committed to managing queues within their lot and assigning management personnel for traffic control.
Apple Valley Addresses Widespread Fiber Optic Installation and Resident Concerns
City Engineer Brandon presented an update on the extensive fiber optic installation for broadband deployment occurring throughout Apple Valley and other Minnesota cities. This work is being done by private telecommunication providers (Metronet, Gigapower, Frontier), not the city. These companies obtain permits to work within city right-of-way, which they are legally authorized to do under state statute. The city is scaling back permit approvals until restoration work is adequately completed and is holding weekly meetings with providers to improve accountability. The city has also hired consultants to assist with inspections due to staffing limitations. A significant concern discussed was the potential for hitting utility lines, including gas lines, exacerbated by a recent statute change that exempts services from mandatory location. Apple Valley Approves 60th Annual Freedom Days Celebration Schedule
