Truck and Tap Variance Approved for New Music Stage
The City Council granted a variance to eliminate the 10-foot rear setback for Truck and Tap at 30 Milton Avenue, allowing for the construction of a covered music performance stage. The property is a small 0.129-acre lot. The applicant currently uses a temporary modular stage in the food truck service area. The new stage will be 12 by 16 feet and 10 feet tall, located at the rear property line, facing away from adjacent properties and towards the city's parking lot. Staff recommended approval with five conditions, including landscaping to soften the stage's appearance from the parking lot and coordination with the city during special events. No noise complaints had been received by code enforcement. The variance was deemed necessary due to the property's small size limiting placement options without directing noise towards neighbors. The motion to approve passed unanimously.
Alpharetta 2045 Comprehensive Plan Adopted by City Council
The City Council adopted the Alpharetta 2045 comprehensive plan update. The council had previously authorized staff to transmit the draft plan to the Department of Community Affairs (DCA) and the Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) on May 18th. Both agencies completed their reviews and determined that, with minor edits, the plan complies with applicable state standards. The resolution for adoption was approved by the council.
City Council Approves Right-of-Way Dedication for Canton on Mayfield Development
The City Council approved a right-of-way deed agreement between the City of Alpharetta and Mayfill Canton Development Group LLC for the Canton on Mayfield development. This action finalizes the dedication of a private right-of-way to become public right-of-way, specifically impacting the southeast corner of the intersection of Canton and Mayfield. This dedication was a condition of approval from a May 2021 zoning decision and is part of the final plat phase for the Hudson Park development. No other properties are impacted by this specific item.
Honey Hall Special Event Facility Approved by City Council
The City Council approved a master plan amendment and conditional use request for the Honey Hall, a special event facility, located at 3055 North Point Parkway, suites 800 and 900. The applicant, Julina Wilkins, plans to operate an upscale, boutique, reservation-only event space for private celebrations and professional gatherings. The facility will accommodate up to 145 people in a 3,120 square foot suite. Operations are planned from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily, with catering services potentially including alcohol service but no alcohol sales. The applicant emphasized a commitment to professionalism, guest experience, and community engagement, including a special commitment to creating a welcoming environment for families with children on the autism spectrum. Staff presented positive public outreach comments, and the Planning Commission recommended approval with eight conditions. The council approved the request unanimously.
City Council Denies Rezoning and Variance Request for Mayfield Road Subdivision
The City Council considered a rezoning request from AG Agriculture to R22 (minimum 22,000 sq ft lots) and a variance request for Z-26-04 / V-26-06 at 1425 Mayfield Road. The proposal is for a five-lot, single-family, detached subdivision on approximately 4.5 acres, with a proposed density of 1.09 dwelling units per acre. The variance sought is to reduce the local street right-of-way width from 50 feet to 44 feet and allow a sidewalk on only one side of the street. Staff recommended a minimum lot size of 30,000 sq ft, which would likely result in a four-lot subdivision. Concerns raised during public comment included increased traffic, tree removal, density, stormwater runoff, loss of green space, privacy, utility impacts, and wildlife impacts. The Planning Commission recommended approval subject to 18 conditions, including the 30,000 sq ft minimum lot size. After discussion and a failed motion to approve, a motion to deny was made and passed by a vote of five to one.
