Final Plan Approved for 25-Townhouse Development on Report Lane
The Board of Supervisors approved the final land development plan for a 25-townhouse unit development at 6045 Report Lane (Docket 2395). The approval included two waivers and denied one waiver. Waiver 4, concerning stone backfill, was approved as a precautionary measure, and Waiver 5, related to the timing of the wearing course placement (allowing it immediately instead of after a two-year wait), was also approved. Waiver 6, concerning the depth of sewer lines, was denied as recommended by township staff and the sanitary engineer, who preferred deeper sewer lines for maintenance reasons despite the builder's preference for shallower lines with grinder pumps. The project is accessing the lot from a private driveway off Report Lane and includes sidewalk and stormwater management facilities.
NICE Construction Awarded Bid for Fire Station Site Work
The Board of Supervisors awarded the bid for the fire station site work to NICE Construction for $1,950,554.65. This is the first stage of creating a new fire station. The bid was the lowest of two responsible bidders and came in approximately 7% under the engineer's and designer's estimates. Alvin Butz managed the bid process, and their debrief indicates NICE Construction is prepared for the job.
Asphalt Maintenance Solution LLC Awarded 2026 Roadway Maintenance Projects
The Board of Supervisors awarded the bid for the 2026 roadway maintenance projects to Asphalt Maintenance Solution LLC. The total cost for the five projects is approximately $1 million. The board approved individual contract amounts for bituminous seal coat, high-performance chip seal, polymer modified crack seal, double chip seal, and ultra-thin bonnet wearing course. The total cost is slightly over budget, but covered by liquid fuel funds.
Agricultural Security Agreement Application Accepted for Muth-Whitby Property
The Board of Supervisors accepted the Agricultural Security Agreement application for the Christine Muth-Whitby property. This is a formal adoption into Ag Security status, requested by Lehigh County Farmland Preservation. While it would eventually occur by default after six months, this action formalizes the agreement and aligns with county requests.
Fire and Rescue Station 57 Receives $50,000 Transfer for Staffing Program
The Board of Supervisors authorized a $50,000 transfer to the Upper Macungie Township Fire and Rescue Station 57 to support its staffing program. This funding comes from recruitment and retention funds. The staffing program is seeing increased weekend coverage as college semesters end, with expectations for further increases over the summer. The transfer brings the total expenditure for the year to approximately halfway through the allocated budget.
