Community Group Presents Petitions for Triangle Development; Resident Urges Special Election for District 3 Vacancy
Marty Suhorski, a member of the 'community for the triangle,' presented over 700 petitions supporting retail commercial development with apartments and parking at the triangle site. He also addressed the District 3 aldermanic vacancy, stating that the previous alderperson's property purchase was contingent before the spring election. Suhorski argued that action at the May 5th meeting could have placed a special election on the November ballot, and that the District 3 residents have lacked representation, urging for a special election.

Alderperson Questions Softball Diamond Location, Defends Council's Right to Respond to Accusations
Alderperson Shawn proposed that the school district reconsider building a softball diamond at Wredler Park, suggesting Willow Glen as a better location due to existing facilities and ample space. He argued that Wredler Park's space would be better utilized for city events and expressed concerns about walking quorums when multiple council members are contacted. Shawn also defended the council's right to respond to accusations of misconduct, stating they are not a 'punching bag' and that individuals making false claims could face slander litigation. He emphasized that the council serves all 10,000 residents, not just the 'loudest voices,' and that defending themselves is necessary.
Council Authorizes Legal Action to Remove Airport Motors LLC from Property
The council entered closed session to discuss negotiating the purchase of public properties (TID 4) and conferring with legal counsel regarding litigation involving Airport Motors LLC at 1602 East Layton Avenue. Following closed session, the council authorized the city attorney's office to commence legal action to obtain a writ of assistance to remove Airport Motors LLC from the property.
