City Council Approves Grant Application for Playground, Authorizes Emergency Balcony Repairs at The Greens, and Discusses Park Improvements

The City Council discussed and approved a resolution authorizing the application for the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism grant to develop recreational facilities. The city's reserves are healthy, with approximately $17.7 million compared to the minimum recommended two months of expenses of $5.7 million. Additionally, the council received an update on the ongoing renovation of Duran Park, which includes demolishing old courts, installing a full-size basketball court, adding outdoor restrooms, increasing parking by 32 spaces, and upgrading sidewalks to ADA compliance. The project aims to enhance the park's aesthetic and functionality, with a unique artistic design for the basketball court surface. The park's historical signage will be reinstated. Several other park and recreation projects were mentioned, including the street overlay on Bear Paw, sidewalk projects on Seminole and Indian Head, and the Lake Cherrywood Spillway bid process. The council also reviewed the financial report for May, which indicated positive financial standing mid-year.
