Planning Commission Recommends Approval for 22-Unit Townhome Development at 1990 S 500 E

The Planning Commission reviewed and recommended approval for a zoning map amendment and general plan amendment for a proposed 22-unit townhome development at 1990 and 2002 South 500 East. The property, previously the site of the historic Wells Ward Meeting House, will be rezoned from R1-5000 (single-family residential) to RMF-35 (moderate-density multi-family residential). The general plan will be amended from low-density to medium-density residential. The development will offer four-bedroom townhomes with two-car garages, and features over 12,000 square feet of open space, including a playground. The applicant revised the plan to reduce units from 24 to 22, add guest parking, and increase setbacks based on community feedback. Staff recommended approval with conditions, aligning with city goals for medium-density housing near transit.
