Free Septic Pumpout Program Launched for Roanoke and Craig County Residents
The Roanoke Valley Allegheny Regional Commission, in partnership with Roanoke County and the Virginia Environmental Endowment, is offering free septic tank pumpouts for eligible residents in Roanoke County and Craig County. The program aims to protect local water quality by ensuring septic systems are maintained and preventing harmful bacteria from entering waterways. It also helps homeowners avoid costly repairs due to deferred maintenance. Eligibility requires residency in Roanoke or Craig County and a household income at or below 80% of the area median income. The program covers standard pumpout costs, but homeowners are responsible for additional costs related to excavation if the tank is buried deeper than two to three feet, or for any necessary system repairs or replacements identified during the service.
