30-Year Lease Approved for Twin Oaks Park/Mullet Festival Site

The City Council authorized the city manager to execute a 30-year lease agreement with the Department of the Air Force for approximately 47.6 acres of property known as Twin Oaks Park/Mullet Festival Site. The agreement includes an annual payment of $65,000, with a portion in cash and the remainder in in-kind services. An annual 3% or CPI escalator applies.

May Police Report Highlights Increased School Zone Violations and Public Safety Efforts

The police department reported statistics for May, including 2,541 calls for service, 8 felony arrests, 7 misdemeanor arrests, and 251 citations issued. A significant concern raised was the increase in school zone camera violations, with over 1,600 infractions recorded in May. The department is considering ways to address this, including potentially increasing live officer presence.

Utility Projects Advance, Drainage Issues and Trail Paving Addressed

Several utility projects and updates were provided. The reuse pipeline project awaits permits from the Air Force Base. A new water tank and demos creek project are ready for bid. The Green Belt sewer upgrade project has begun, with completion expected in 120 days. Work continues on well rehabilitation and new well drilling. Fluoride removal from the water system has saved $55,000 annually. Updates were also provided on drainage issues, pipe separations, and sinkholes across various city locations. Paving for the multi-use trail on Forest Road is scheduled to begin June 22nd. A new school zone will be installed along Highway 85.
