Mayor Highlights Community Events, Land Auction Plans, and State Championship Recognition
Mayor Day's report included an announcement about the First Town Days Festival celebrating America's 250th anniversary with an extended firework show on July 2nd, sponsored by several local businesses. Pat Ferris was named Grand Marshal for the parade. The department is also actively involved in its mosquito control program, tracking mosquitoes city-wide and in Green Township, offering larvicide tablets, and planning to spray Tuscora Park before the First Town Days festival. The $22,571 EPA grant for the mosquito program and the CHIP grant were also discussed in the finance committee meeting.
Hiring Efforts Underway for Fire, Police Departments; Gan Township Contract Negotiations Continue

For the fire department, a civil service examination was completed with 10 participants, and interviews are underway for five candidates, with two expected to be hired. For the police department, a social service exam yielded only two candidates, neither of whom was selected, requiring a regrouping of recruitment strategies. The director also noted that negotiations with Gan Township concerning a service contract are ongoing, with a significant gap in proposals but positive dialogue.
