Montgomery Township to Retrofit Stormwater Basins with DEP Grant Funding

The Township Committee discussed Resolution 26-6-189, authorizing the award of a bid to KDP for retrofitting stormwater basins at Catbriar Court and Red Fox Run. This project is funded by a grant from the DEP (Department of Environmental Protection) and aims to improve both stormwater quantity (preventing flooding) and quality. The project involves removing concrete centers from the basins and implementing new plantings. Although the grant was awarded several years ago, the project is now moving forward after some delays with the DEP agreement. The Water Supply Authority has supported similar efforts in Franklin Township with beneficial results.

Girl Scout Gold Award Project Delivers Comprehensive Resource Guide for New Montgomery Residents

Angelina Bush, a graduating senior from Montgomery High School, presented her Girl Scout Gold Award project: a comprehensive "New Resident Welcome Guide" or "Community Resource Guide." The guide, which is now posted on the township website, is designed to make it easier for new residents to access essential information about township events, emergency services, housing, utilities, healthcare, mental health resources, community connections, social services, senior services, local amenities, and transportation. The guide aims to streamline access to information and help new residents integrate into the community more effectively. The Township Committee members commended the project for its professional quality, clarity, and usefulness.

Montgomery Township Committee Unanimously Adopts Ordinance Banning Data Centers and Detention Centers

The Township Committee held a public hearing and adopted Ordinance 26-1779, which prohibits the development of data centers and detention centers within Montgomery Township. This decision was made after significant public input, with many residents and environmental advocates expressing strong support due to concerns about the environmental impact, resource consumption (water and electricity), noise, and potential negative effects on community character and property values. Econ Development Corp. presented arguments against an outright ban, suggesting the Kenview site could be suitable with mitigation. However, the committee voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance, prioritizing community well-being and environmental protection.

Left Turns Prohibited at Somerset at Montgomery Driveway During Peak Hours

The Township Committee adopted Resolution 26-6-190, supporting the Department of Transportation's (DOT) recommendation to prohibit left turns at the driveway entrance to the Somerset at Montgomery apartment complex on Route 206. This restriction will be in effect during peak hours: Monday through Friday, 7-9 a.m. and 4-7 p.m. Residents will access the complex via the shopping center entrance. The DOT requires a resolution of support for this traffic regulation order. Discussions also touched upon the completion of Village Drive and the need for a crosswalk near the Wawa location, though DOT's requirement for sidewalk connection was noted.
