New Stop Sign to Enhance Safety at Lincoln and Augustus Intersection
A motion was made and seconded to add a stop sign for westbound traffic at the intersection of Lincoln Street and Augustus Street due to concerns from local residents about traffic in the area. Traffic sensors and police patrols have indicated speeding issues. This intersection is a T intersection and is part of the Safe Routes to School sidewalk project area. The addition of the stop sign, along with future tree trimming, aims to improve traffic flow and safety. The motion passed.
City Approves Pavement Condition Survey to Guide Future Road Improvements
The city is seeking approval for an agreement with TransMap Corporation for a pavement condition survey, not to exceed $56,410.13. This survey will assess 100% of the roads in town, including cemetery roads, using technology like cameras and LIDAR to score road segments. The data will be used to create a five-year plan for street improvements and prioritize road maintenance. The agreement also includes a ground-penetrating radar scan to assess pavement thickness, intended to avoid surprises encountered in previous projects like Sycamore. The motion to approve the agreement and authorize the mayor to sign was moved, seconded, and passed.
Fire Department Replaces Hazmat Suits After Incident
The fire department requested to replace four Level A hazmat suits that were utilized during an incident on the west side of town in December. The reimbursement was received from Transporters Insurance Company. Three quotes were obtained, with Delta Fire and Safety providing the lowest quote at $10,913.35. The motion to approve payment to Delta Fire and Safety for four Kepler frontline 500 vapor entry hazmat suits was moved and seconded, and all in favor said aye.
City Approves Payment to Habitat for Humanity for Demolition Work
The administrative report included a request to pay McPherson Area Habitat for Humanity $3,614.34 for demolition expenses at 1112 North Elm, in preparation for a future home build. The motion to approve this payment was moved, seconded, and passed.
City Approves Rezone for Central Christian College and Updates Lot Split Regulations
The city is considering a rezone for Central Christian College to remove its protective overlay and apply a Planned Unit Development (PUD) district over 24 parcels, reduced from 33. A revision regarding street and public parking setbacks to meet city standards was also recommended. Separately, an ordinance update was proposed to allow two lot splits before requiring a replat, instead of one, within the city boundary but not the ETJ. This aims to streamline the process for the community and provide clearer guidelines. Both ordinance updates were moved, seconded, and approved.
