City Council Approves Annual Renewal for Police and Fire Department Software Systems

The City Council authorized the payment of $94,851.88 to Central Square Technologies for the annual renewal of their Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management Software (RMS), and FieldOps systems. These systems are crucial for the Police Department and now interface with the Fire RMS system, eliminating manual data entry for the fire department. The initial purchase in 2024 was supported by a grant of $358,000, and a seven-year discounted renewal rate was negotiated. The police department's general operating budget covers $34,104.98, and E911 state funds cover $60,746.90. Staff confirmed the system's reliability and efficiency compared to the old system, noting its importance for first responders and its backup server capabilities.

The UTVs are essential for various departmental duties including snow removal, sidewalk and trail maintenance, event support, and herbicide applications. Council members noted the high cost but acknowledged the capability and necessity of the diesel-powered machines for demanding tasks.

Councilmember Brunson expressed strong appreciation for the farmer's market, calling the idea 'genius.' He observed significant community engagement during a recent visit, noting people sitting on the steps of the heritage center, which aligns with the project's original vision. He also mentioned that the property involved has been worked on for years, with input from Marlon Penner, and is finally realizing its intended purpose. He also shared positive feedback on specific food vendors, noting that popular items like breakfast beer rocks and enchiladas sell out early.
