South Main Street Maintenance Under State Jurisdiction, Large-Scale Project Planned
The maintenance of South Main Street is the responsibility of the state, as it is designated as a state highway (Highway 41) managed by District 2. While the state has it on their long-term schedule and has performed temporary patching over the past three years, a full reconstruction is a massive project. South Main Street is primarily concrete, requiring a significant undertaking beyond simple repaving. Additionally, stormwater management along South Main Street presents challenges due to numerous drain boxes. The state highway project is on District 2's plans, and efforts are being made to address the critical areas.
