Activities include a downtown walking tour by historian John Zimus, an unveiling and train ride of the "Spirit of Lebanon 250th" locomotive by L&M Railroad, a cornhole tournament, a dog race, a pie contest, a patriotic magician show, and the "Running of the Lamb." The day culminates with the annual Independence Day parade and a "Light Up Lebanon" event with fireworks at Colony Park West, in partnership with Union Township. Additionally, a free concert with kids' activities and food trucks is scheduled for the following Friday.
City Council Approves $1.13 Million Supplemental Paving Contract and Pedestrian Safety Enhancements
The council approved Ordinance 2026-060, authorizing a supplemental paving contract with Filmore Construction for $1,131,775. This contract will fund pavement resurfacing on Chilikothy Avenue, Lebanon Road, and includes pedestrian safety improvements on East Street at Carman Park, Stoke Street, the municipal surf facility drive, the water treatment plant facility asphalt parking area, and four downtown alleys. Funding is being utilized from existing appropriations to complete more paving work this year. Specifics were discussed regarding the segments of Chilikothy Avenue to be paved and the plan for a bridge replacement on that road, which is currently seeking grant funding. Pedestrian safety improvements include widening sidewalks at the East Street bridge near Carman Park and adding a crossing near the tennis courts.
Lebanon Celebrates "Little Libby Kindness Day" and "Together Tuesday" to Promote Youth Service
Mayor Messer presented a proclamation declaring June 23rd, 2026, as "Little Libby Kindness Day" and June 2026 as "Together Tuesday" in Lebanon. The proclamation highlighted the "Little Libby Kindness Project," inspired by Elizabeth Kimberlin, which promotes youth engagement through writing, storytelling, and service.
