Le Mars Council Meeting June 16, 2026
Published: Jun 16, 2026
Infrastructure Project Updates: Street Openings, Downtown Signal Delays, and Early Pole Delivery
Updates were provided on ongoing infrastructure projects. The 18th Street Southeast Storm Sewer project is nearing completion, with installation finished and a final walkthrough scheduled, after which the street is expected to reopen shortly. For Crossroads Commons, storm sewer pipe laying is ongoing. The traffic signals project downtown is experiencing delays due to unforeseen underground issues discovered beneath the concrete, including storm sewer problems that have been addressed. While contractor work was paused for Ice Cream Days, the delivery of poles has arrived earlier than expected (November), potentially accelerating the project timeline. The storm sewer work from Browns to Measures will occur within radii and should not require street closures, keeping Central open. [cite: 214-255]
Harvest Ridge Edition Final Plat and Rezoning Approved; Public Hearing Set

A development agreement for cost-sharing, including a city lift station at 24th Street and 7th Avenue Southeast, will be presented later. [cite: 106-133, 138-147]
Fire Rescue Ordinance Updates and Fireworks Regulations Discussed
The City Council reviewed proposed updates to Chapter 36 of the Lamar's Code of Ordinances concerning the Fire Rescue Department. These updates reflect current staffing levels, including a chief and one assistant, and the duties of battalion chiefs. The council scheduled a public hearing for July 7, 2026, to approve these amendments. Additionally, Fire Chief Dave provided information on current fireworks regulations, emphasizing allowed dates (July 3rd, 4th, and 5th) and times (9:00 PM to 11:00 PM), and stressing that fireworks should only be used on private property and cleaned up afterward.
