Kentwood Approves Workstation Replacement Funds and Budgeting Adjustments
The City Commission approved spending remaining workstation replacement budget for the current fiscal year and updated budgeting methods for the next fiscal year. For the current fiscal year, the commission authorized spending approximately $48,000 from the remaining budget for workstation replacements, allowing flexibility for purchasing as needed due to varying lead times and price swings. For the next fiscal year, the budgeting method was adjusted from three categories to more detailed buckets to improve accuracy, with a total budget of roughly $160,000 still authorized for spending throughout the year. The city plans to repurpose older workstations if they have a remaining useful life, particularly laptops for temporary use.
Kentwood Adopts Budget Amendment for Road Funding
The City Commission adopted a budget amendment resolution to include budgets for major and local streets for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. It was discovered that these budgets were omitted from the original document approved last year. The Uniform Budgeting Act requires these budgets to be adopted. The resolution provides the necessary budget for road maintenance for the specified fiscal year.
Kentwood Contracts for Fire Hydrant Painting Project
The City Commission approved a contract with Cole Decorators for the sandblasting and painting of fire hydrants. The contract involves a three or four-step process using durable paint similar to that used on water towers. In the current fiscal year, 50 to 75 hydrants will be painted on major streets, with the remaining 218 hydrants to be completed in the next fiscal year. The contract includes options for renewal for up to five additional years, covering the entire city over time. Temporary lane closures may be necessary for the work, with traffic control measures in place.
Kentwood Contracts for Fire Alarm Suppression System Maintenance
The City Commission approved a contract with Rapid Fire Protection for the maintenance and testing of all fire alarm suppression systems throughout the city. The contract includes options to extend for up to four additional years with a 5% annual increase. While Rapid Fire's initial bid was higher in some aspects, their annual inspection and maintenance costs made them the most cost-effective choice for complying with OSHA and NFPA regulations. The contract covers essential maintenance and testing of fire protection equipment in city buildings.
