Comprehensive Plan Nears Vote; Public Review Encouraged
The city planner and director of the Department of Development presented the City of Jamestown Comprehensive Plan, which is coming up for a vote later this month. State-Funded GIVE Program Approved for Violent Crime Reduction in Jamestown
A resolution was passed authorizing the Mayor and Police Chief to participate in the GIVE program from July 1st, 2026, to June 30th, 2027. The program, funded entirely by New York State, provides $309,345 for violent crime reduction, specifically targeting shootings within the city. This initiative was approved by both the Finance and Public Safety committees.
CDBG Budget Revisions to Prioritize Business Development and Community Safety
The city is reallocating funds within its 2025 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) budget. Funds previously designated for ADA improvement public facilities are being moved to support business development and technical assistance, as well as community engagement and enhanced community safety programs. Technical assistance will focus on aiding existing and new businesses, while safety funds will bolster current initiatives, including collaborations with JPD, outreach to vulnerable populations, and neighborhood watch campaigns.
Powerhouse Fitness Center Loan Approved by JLDC, Awaiting Council Vote
The Jamestown Local Development Corporation (JLDC) has approved a $200,000 loan for Powerhouse Fitness Center. As this amount exceeds $100,000, it requires full City Council approval. The loan carries a 4% interest rate and a 10-year term. The Finance Committee previously approved this item.
Mayor and Police Chief Authorized to Participate in State-Funded Violent Crime Reduction Program
