Storm Response, Upcoming Events, and Credit Card Processing Issue Update
Village Manager Joe Ber provided an update, thanking staff and responders for their work during recent storms. He mentioned ongoing cleanup of trees and branches by public works crews. Food Truck Friday and 'chuck it up' are scheduled for Friday from 5-8 PM, with the Behavioral Health and Addiction Recovery Committee having a table. Volunteers are still needed for Homefest. Ber also addressed a processing issue with a credit card terminal from the previous season, where some 2025 mega pass purchases were delayed and might appear on current statements, apologizing for the inconvenience.
Commercial Building Improvement Grant Awarded to Rory's Whiskey and Woods
The board approved a reimbursement grant award under the Commercial Building Improvement Grant Program to Rory's Golf and Gaming LLC (Rory's Whiskey and Woods) for eligible improvements at 12145 West 159th Street, totaling $7,500. Trustee Leapor praised the program for attracting businesses and supporting their growth, highlighting it as a win-win for the village and the business. Trustee Mason concurred. The motion passed unanimously.
New Business Bloom and Beauty Spa Opens on Bell Road
Trustee Leapor, chair of the economic development committee, welcomed Bloom and Beauty Spa, a new business that opened next to Jewel on 103rd Street and Bell Road. Leapor encouraged residents to visit the spa, calling it a welcome addition to the community and wishing them success.
Cedar Road Sewer Extension Project Bid Approved for $2.59 Million
The board approved the construction bid from Austin Tyler Construction for the Cedar Road Fitment Creek Sanitary Sewer Extension Project for $2,591,909.72. Trustee Rinders noted this extends the trunk line, a long-planned project. Trustee Sheller observed that Bid #3 was double the projected winner's bid, and Trustee Leapor agreed it seemed high, but Mr. Wescott clarified that the bid was close to the engineer's estimate of $2.6 million and that contractors may bid high if busy. The motion passed.
Fence Height Variance Approved for Property on West Janice Drive
The board approved an ordinance granting a variance for a fence at 15608 West Janice Drive. The variance allows an increase in maximum fence height from 4 ft to 6 ft in a corner sideyard, and permits a privacy fence in a corner sideyard where fences are required to be 50% open. The Plan Commission voted 7-0 in favor, and similar variances have been approved previously. Trustees noted the R3 single-family residential district context and expressed no reason to deny. The motion passed unanimously.
