Published: Jun 8, 2026
Habford Township Launches Optional Curbside Compost Collection Service July 13th
Habford Township is launching a curbside compost collection service starting July 13th. This optional service allows residents to recycle food scraps, yard waste, weeds, and grass clippings. Participation is voluntary and available to all households with current curbside trash collection. No registration or special container is required; residents can use any standard 5-gallon bucket with a secure lid. Biodegradable paper bags can be used for yard waste. The township will host a free composting kickoff and starter kit giveaway on Sunday, June 14th, with the first 2,500 households receiving a kit and the first 900 receiving an indoor countertop container. Residents were advised that finished compost will not be available yet, biodegradable plastic bags are not accepted, and they can continue using services like Mother Compost, but the township will collect food waste placed curbside on Mondays.
Squirrel Road Development Plan Approved for Four-Lot Subdivision with New Dwellings
The Habford Township Board of Commissioners approved Resolution 2484-2026, granting the preliminary final subdivision and land development plan for Squirrel Road Development Partners LLC. This plan allows for a four-lot subdivision and land development, including the construction of a new single-family dwelling and driveway for each lot at 1039 Squirrel Road. The approval includes waivers that were agreed upon or worked out prior to the vote, with associated fees and liens noted in the resolution. The project was discussed extensively in previous work sessions.

Ordinance P10-2026 amends the lease agreement with Unicite Omnipoint PA tower Venture LLC for property at 2080 Old Westchester Pike. Ordinance P12-2026 installs a special purpose parking zone at 4 West Mercer Avenue, and another ordinance of the same number (P12-2026) removes a special purpose parking zone at 727 Humphrey's Road. Residents Voice Concerns Over Zoning Ordinance Update Transparency; Commissioners Highlight Available Documentation
During the meeting, discussions arose regarding the process of updating the zoning ordinance. Residents expressed concerns about the lack of easily trackable changes, the ambiguity in the draft ordinance regarding nonconforming uses like shared alleyways, and the need for clearer comparisons between the legacy and proposed ordinances. Residents requested a transparent process with redline comparisons and plain-language summaries to facilitate informed public engagement. Commissioner Holmes responded to concerns about 'gaslighting,' emphasizing the availability of documents like section change logs, definition change logs, and use change logs on the township website, and highlighted the need to define terms to regulate uses effectively. The importance of clear communication and resident involvement in the zoning update process was a key theme.
