City Council Approves Naming Rights Deal, Renaming Heartland Event Center to Big Iron Event Center
The City Council considered a resolution to approve a naming rights agreement with Big Iron Event Center, changing the name from Heartland Event Center. The agreement is for 11 years and worth approximately $1.5 million. Kyler Tarwater, representing VenueWorks (the operator), highlighted that the funds would reduce taxpayer spending on the building and provide revenue for operations. Jay, a community member, voiced concerns about the lack of a formal naming rights policy, the process of soliciting bids, and whether the revenue should go to the operator or taxpayers. Council members discussed the value of the naming rights, the process of negotiation, and the potential for future name changes. Ultimately, the council voted to approve the agreement.
