Village Board & COW Meeting - 06/18/2026
Published: Jun 18, 2026
Village Approves Contracts for New Comprehensive and Parks Master Plans
The village is initiating the process to create a new comprehensive plan and a parks and recreation master plan. These plans will serve as a roadmap for future land use, development, and recreational investments over the next 10 years. The village has contracted with Teska Associates for this project, which emphasizes strong community engagement through various outreach methods. Consolidating these two plans is expected to result in cost savings and a more robust public input process. The estimated total cost for both plans is approximately $340,000, to be spread over two fiscal years.
July Declared Park and Recreation Month; State Representative Shares Updates
The village board proclaimed July as Park and Recreation Month. State Representative Diane Blair-Sherlock also made a proclamation for Parks and Rec Month in Illinois and shared updates from Springfield. She discussed the balanced budget, state funding challenges, and secured funds for Glendale Heights' wastewater treatment plants. Additionally, she mentioned upcoming events like fraud prevention seminars for seniors and a Juneteenth event. She also discussed recently passed legislation prohibiting homeowners associations from ticketing police and fire vehicles and a bill allowing the treasurer to reclaim overpaid taxes for the I-Cash program.
Youth Volleyball League Celebrated for Successful Inaugural Season
The village board recognized the 7th and 8th-grade volleyball team for their successful season. The team, comprised of 55 participants across fifth-sixth and seventh-eighth grade groups, achieved second place in their respective divisions. The Sports Hub ran its first youth volleyball league, which was deemed a great success, stemming from community interest expressed the previous fall. The league involved five volunteer coaches, with special recognition given to Coach Marissa Martinez and Coach Iris for their teams' playoff success. The Sports Hub will offer a fall volleyball league with registration deadlines and practice/game schedules announced.
Consent Agenda Approved, Including Road Project and Park Restoration Contracts
The board approved the consent agenda, which included the approval of meeting minutes, payroll, and accounts payable listings. It also authorized agreements for material testing services, the 2026 MFT road project, and a change order for the Americana Park playground restoration. Additionally, a pyrotechnic display permit for Glendale Heights Fest was approved, along with the Village employee health insurance plan and a pay request for the Highland Avenue reconstruction project.
Indoor Amusement Facility Proposed for East North Avenue
The board heard a recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Commission to approve a conditional use permit for an indoor amusement establishment at 91 East North Avenue, located in a C2 community commercial district. The applicant, Ayaz Khan of Active Family Entertainment, plans to create a family-friendly environment with activities such as laser tag, a toddler area, and a cafe, targeting families with children up to 12 years old. The facility will not have slot machines or alcohol. The applicant has engaged a consulting group, AEM, with experience in building similar establishments. The projected opening is Q1 2027. The facility will be ADA compliant. The zoning is C2, and a conditional use permit is required for this type of establishment within that district.
