Meldrum Bar Park Parking Program Evolution: App Payment and Fee Adjustments Considered

The Gladstone City Council and Parks and Recreation Advisory Board discussed the Pay to Park program at Meldrum Bar Park. The program, initially implemented in June 2021, charges non-residents for parking while offering free permits to residents. Discussions focused on the program's revenue, expenditures, and potential enhancements, including the introduction of an online pay-by-app system to reduce congestion and improve convenience. A fee increase for non-residents from $3/day to $5/day and from $40/year to $50/year was proposed. The council expressed general support for evolving the system towards an app-based payment method by the end of the year, with a consensus to keep the parking fee and consider the fee increase. Discussions also touched on potential infrastructure improvements like a bypass lane, relocating the kiosk, and adding electrical connections for future events.
