City of Florence Council Meeting 6-25-2026

Council Approves Grant Application for Shelter Equipment and Spay/Neuter Program
The council considered and approved a motion to apply for the ASPCA grant. This grant, if awarded, will equip the shelter suite with spay/neuter equipment. The Bissell Pet Foundation will partner to cover the costs of spay/neuter services for shelter dogs and community animals, charging a nominal fee for community pets ($25/cat, $35/dog). The grant application requires council approval due to the short window of opportunity. If approved, the grant amount is $35,000 to purchase equipment such as tables, lights, an oxygen concentrator, and an autoclave. Award notifications are expected around August 1st, with final grantees announced by October 21st.
