City to Seek Grant for Ballfield Maintenance Machine
The City Council authorized the mayor's office to apply for an AMRV, RC, and D grant to fund the replacement of a worn-out ballfield maintenance machine. The estimated cost for the machine is $30,000. If the grant award is less than the purchase price, the difference will be covered by the Parks and Recreation capital fund. The Parks and Recreation department supports approximately 1500 children in rec leagues, 500 adults in wreck leagues, and 198 travel teams annually, highlighting the significant demand for ballfield use.
City Council Approves FY2027 Electric Department Budget
The City Council approved the fiscal year 2027 electric department budget. The electric department staff presented their needs, projections for growth, and information on the department's fiscal soundness. The council members expressed appreciation for the presentation.
City Council Approves Rezoning for Habitat for Humanity Project
The city council approved an ordinance to rezone approximately 14.2 acres of land from R12 (medium density single family residential) to R14 (single family duplex attached residential). The property is located east of Teresa Private Drive and north of West Hob Street. Habitat for Humanity is the applicant, and they intend to build single-family homes on the property. The R14 zoning allows for duplexes but the applicant plans to only build single-family residences. Planning Commission recommended approval, and staff supported the request due to more restrictive setbacks in the R14 district (35 feet rear setback compared to 30 feet). Access to the property will not be from Teresa Private Drive.
License Granted for Shopping Center Sign on Raleigh Boulevard Median
The City Council authorized a revocable license for NRE One Creek LLC to erect a shopping center sign on the median of Raleigh Boulevard. NRE One Creek LLC is developing a retail shopping center that includes Hobby Lobby. The sign is intended to serve the public interest of traffic safety due to the expected traffic from the development. The license allows NRE to construct and maintain the sign on the city's median.
