Fairmont City Council Awards $50,000 Opioid Settlement Grant to Housing Authority
The council considered and adopted a resolution awarding $50,000 in city of Fairmont opioid settlement grant funds to the Fairmont Morgantown Housing Authority. These funds are designated for the expansion of the housing authority's home ownership center housing navigator program. The resolution also grants authority to the city manager to manage the award.
Fairmont City Council to Consider Ordinance for Blight Removal Through Property Acquisition
The council is considering an ordinance to authorize the purchase of various parcels of real estate from the state of West Virginia, acquired due to non-payment of real estate taxes. The city was the highest bidder. The ordinance also authorizes the subsequent transfer of these parcels to unidentified purchasers under the city's home rule plan. The purpose is to remove slum and blight. A public hearing is scheduled for July 14th, 2026.
Fairmont City Council to Include Annexed Territory in Seventh Voting District
An ordinance was introduced to amend the city code regarding voting districts by including certain annexed territory near Carriage Drive into the seventh voting district. This change is necessary to enfranchise voters in the newly annexed territory. A public hearing for this ordinance is scheduled for July 14th, 2026.
Fairmont City Council to Hold Public Hearing on New Sign Ordinance
The city council introduced an ordinance to repeal and replace Section 5.3, Signs and Similar Structures, of Article 5.0, Site Standards, of the city's planning and zoning code. This proposed ordinance will update the existing sign ordinance. The Planning Commission approved the repeal and replacement recommendation on April 15, 2026. The council voted to set a public hearing for July 14th, 2026.
Fairmont City Council Corrects Transit Authority Name in Ordinance
The city council considered an ordinance to amend and supplement ordinance number 390, adopted December 19th, 1972, concerning the Fairmont Marian County Transit Authority. The amendment aims to correct a discrepancy in the name of the authority and identify it by its correct legal name. The council held a public hearing, discussed the ordinance, and proceeded to a roll-call vote.
