Environmental Commission Membership Requirements Amended
Council considered an ordinance to amend Chapter 170 of the codified ordinances to remove the minimum membership requirement for the Environmental Commission, while maintaining the maximum of 12 members. The ordinance was moved to suspend the second and third readings, adopted, and passed.
Community Crafters Organization Seeks Volunteer Support and Future Space
Brenda Davenport presented 'Community Crafters Crafting Community,' a fledgling organization that uses donated materials for crafting, with the goal of donating finished items to other community organizations. They have donated to food banks and ministries. Another project, 'Reading with Friends,' aims to engage children with stories, books, and related crafts, and Davenport invited community leaders, including council members, to participate as readers. The long-term dream is to establish a dedicated space for the organization, which would also serve as a venue for community service work.
Fairfield Announces Packed Summer Schedule of Events and Activities
Councilmember Kraft provided updates on various summer events and park activities. This included recent 'Concert on the Green' events, the Golden Years Expo, and the opening of the Art Gallery for the Fairfield City Schools Art Show. Upcoming events include 'Yoga on the Green,' 'Dancing on the Green,' additional 'Concert on the Green' performances, 'by the lake' concerts, Fairfield Fest featuring a drone show, 'Movie in the Park' (Hamilton), and the 'Red, White, and Kaboom' event with fireworks. Goat Yoga was canceled due to weather.
City Adopts 2027 Tax Budget and Approves Budgetary Appropriations
The council approved the 2027 tax budget, estimating revenues and expenditures for property tax-derived funds like the general and fire levy funds. Additionally, two ordinances for appropriations were passed: one for $375,000 in contractual appropriations for the Development Services Department, and another for $120,966 in non-contractual appropriations across Development Services, Public Utilities, Fire, and Parks and Recreation departments. These ordinances also declared emergencies and passed after suspending second and third readings.
City Approves $375,000 Grant for Community Improvement Corporation
An ordinance was passed affirming the designation of the CIC of Fairfield as the city's development agency and authorizing a $375,000 grant to the CIC. This funding, from the Transformative Economic Development Fund and the Downtown Development Fund, will help the CIC prioritize and execute projects in targeted areas. The ordinance also declared an emergency and passed after suspending second and third readings.
