City Council Approves Appropriations Ordinance Amendment for Fiscal Year 2026
The City Council conducted a public hearing and approved Ordinance Number 1326, an appropriations ordinance amendment for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026. This amendment is necessary to balance departmental budgets by adjusting over and under expenditures. The action is mandated by state law to ensure no individual line items are overrun. The amendment will increase the use of fund balance by $9,780, bringing the total to $281,768. The Controller estimates a surplus of approximately $100,000 in the general fund at the end of the year. The ordinance was approved with all council members voting yes.
City Council Approves Rezoning of Former Jail Site to E-Commercial
The City Council held a public hearing and approved Ordinance Number 1327, the Commercial E-Ordinance of 2026, for the former Delta County Jail site. The planning and zoning administration requested the approval and adoption of this ordinance. The parcel was found to be split into three zoning designations: unzoned, E3, and E-Commercial. The rezoning to E-Commercial aligns with the pattern along Luddington and is considered best practice, making the proposed hotel project a by-right development rather than requiring a special land use permit. Moyle Construction, the general contractor for the hotel project, and the Terrace Bay Hotel Group, the owner, were present. The site plan approval was contingent on this rezoning. The Planning Commission had previously recommended approval. The ordinance passed with all council members voting yes.
City Council Encourages Resident Participation on Boards and Commissions
The City Council discussed opportunities for residents to serve on city boards and commissions. There are two vacancies on the Housing Commission, one vacancy on the Planning Commission, and two alternate vacancies on the Zoning Board of Appeals. Residents interested in contributing to the city's development and initiatives are encouraged to apply.
City Council Approves Purchase of Single Axle Plow Truck
The City Council approved the purchase of a single-axle plow truck for Public Works. The administration sought council approval to buy one truck for $255,962.44 from UP Truck Center with Casper's Equipment. This purchase is included in the upcoming budget. The motion to approve was seconded, and all council members voted in favor.
