Elwood Park Approves Multiple Resolutions Including Appointments and Contracts
A series of resolutions were approved as part of the consent agenda. These included approvals for payroll, bills list, capital budget amendment, vacation buyback authorization, and resolutions to redeem third-party tax liens. Additionally, appointments were made for part-time electrical and building inspectors, full-time public safety telecommunicator, full-time laborers, and part-time seasonal workers. Other resolutions authorized contracts for EAP services, appointed recreation staff, accepted proposals for affordable housing services, appointed a municipal housing liaison, and authorized a shared services agreement with Bergen County.
Councilman Oswald Discusses Infrastructure Improvements and Resident Conservation Efforts
Councilman Oswald highlighted ongoing curbside improvements and ADA-compliant sidewalk projects aimed at enhancing road access and safety within the borough. He also encouraged residents to conserve electricity and water due to rising rates and to consider composting to reduce waste and costs. He recommended supporting local businesses and walking for local errands to reduce reliance on external services like Amazon.
Community Events, Veteran Support, and Fire Department Statistics Highlighted
Councilwoman Sheridan reported on various community events and safety initiatives. The spray park is opening soon, and there will be a Father's Day raffle. She is refurbishing a monument at the high school and will be selling 50/50 tickets during concerts. For veterans, a Father's Day movie and a free ComicCon are planned. A karaoke event for the Battlefield Commander Foundation is also scheduled. A fire report indicated 239 emergency incidents and nearly 3,800 volunteer service hours from January 1st to May 31st. Residents were cautioned about barbecue grill safety.
