Cottage Grove Approves Geneva Meadows Second Edition Residential Development
The City Council approved a zoning amendment and preliminary plat for a new residential development called Geneva Meadows Second Edition. The applicant, Lenar, requested to rezone a 13.14-acre parcel from R1 (Rural Residential) to R3 (Single Family Residential). The preliminary plat includes 23 single-family lots, eight outlots for stormwater management and pipeline easements, and a remnant parcel for an existing residence. Access to the development will primarily be from Summit Avenue in St. Paul Park, with a new road named Geneva Court. The development will be serviced by sewer and water from St. Paul Park, with existing residences retaining private well and septic systems but with stubs for future connection. Tree preservation and mitigation plans are in place. This project is similar to previously approved developments like Summer's Landing Fourth Addition.
Cottage Grove Council Fines Two Businesses for Underage Tobacco Sales
The City Council addressed tobacco compliance violations at two businesses: Holiday Gas Station and Smoke Shop and Vape. Both businesses failed compliance checks conducted on May 27th, where an underage decoy purchased tobacco products without the cashier requesting identification. This is the first violation for both businesses within the last 36 months. The council imposed a scheduled penalty of $300 for each violation, consistent with the city's policy for first-time offenses. Representatives from both businesses attended, acknowledged the violations, and detailed steps taken, including employee termination and retraining, to prevent future occurrences. The council approved the penalty.
