It prohibits animals of any kind on the sandbar, aligning with section 505.01 of the codified ordinances. Resident Voices Concerns Over Data Centers, Environmental Impact, and Lack of Public Input

Sandy Shelonburgger expressed concerns regarding data centers and the 'New Albany visit,' questioning the lack of information on environmental impact and EPA involvement from the Lake to River Economic Development initiative, which received $150 million from Ohio Jobs for land acquisition in New Albany. She highlighted the controversial history of New Albany's city council and leadership. She expressed a preference for paying more taxes than facing increased power bills, water supply depletion, and surveillance. She questioned the purpose of data centers and the type of information they would collect or store. Citing an article on an Ashtabula County moratorium, she noted that Greg Meyers of the Growth Partnership previously identified Ashtabula Township as a prime location for data centers behind Concat, despite the minimal job creation from such projects. She questioned how Growth Partnership facilitates these proposals without community input and recalled past protests against the Pink Iron plant due to environmental concerns. She cited national polls (Gallup and Holding Green University) showing significant public opposition to local data centers and questioned if council would consider them if the majority of citizens opposed them, emphasizing the need for meaningful public input and voting rights on industry decisions. She urged council to attend a Conserve Ohio presentation and noted that Ashtabula Township and Geneva City have implemented 12-month moratoriums on data centers, suggesting the city consider the same.

Red, White, and Boomfest Details Shared, Concerns Raised About Event Site Conditions

Debbie discussed upcoming events, focusing on the Red, White, and Boomfest, which will include a time capsule reveal around 3:30 p.m. after the parade on July 3rd. She mentioned partnering with the historical society to create a new time capsule for opening in 50 years and asked if the city could contribute. The festival will feature 16 food vendors, 15-16 sales vendors, seven bands, and a ride company. Debbie raised concerns about overgrowth on the side of the ridge requiring mowing, and a tree removal that left large ruts in the center of the vendor area. She is seeking solutions for these issues. She also noted the success of their Facebook presence in generating community interaction and answering questions. Debbie invited council members to attend the time capsule reveal, mentioning that the family involved in the original dedication is traveling from across the country.
