New Fire Training Facility Enhances Safety and Revenue Streams
Council Member Lawson and the Mayor commented on the new fire training facility located behind firehouse number one. They highlighted its high caliber and quality, noting it not only improves the capabilities of the local fire department but also allows for revenue generation by training external fire departments. The facility simulates hazardous conditions to prepare firefighters. A public open house is planned but not yet scheduled. The project was a public-private partnership, with significant contributions from the Samaritan Hospital Foundation and a grant from State Representative Melanie Miller. The facility is considered a piece of equipment rather than a building.
City Council Approves Amendment to 2026 Appropriations
The council passed Ordinance 31-26, an emergency measure authorizing the Director of Finance to amend appropriations for the calendar year 2026.
