School District Approves Agreement for Bus Safety Cameras and Police Enforcement
The board discussed and voted on an addendum to the agenda regarding an agreement with Bus Patrol America LLC for camera installation on district buses and a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the West Mifflin Borough Police Department to enforce school bus safety laws. This agreement is at no cost to the district, pending solicitor review. The addendum was motioned by Engler and seconded by Alexandrov, and subsequently added to the agenda.
School District Approves Purchases, Adjusts Math Series Subscription Cost and Funding for Study Island
The board addressed purchasing and contracting items, with most discussed during the work session. A change was noted in item number 26, related to a math series, where the cost increased from $341,000 to $423,000 due to a correction in the subscription period from 4 years to a requested 6 years. Study Island licenses for the high school and middle school were also discussed, with a decision to fund them from the building budget instead of the general fund budget.
Steel Center Celebrates Student Achievements and Announces Grand Reopening
The Steel Center's end-of-year activities were reported, including Senior Awards Night and Senior Recognition. Several students were recognized for achievements, including national and state-level competitions in Health Occupational Students of America (HOSA). Top of the Shop awards and Extra Effort awards for the second semester were also presented. Work-based learning co-op internships were highlighted, with specific students and their placements named. A grand reopening and building rededication for the Skill Center is scheduled for Thursday, August 27th at 9:00 a.m.
School District Approves Insurance Policies and LERTA Resolution, Anticipating Significant Savings
The board approved several finance and operations items. This included rescinding previous resolutions related to LERTA and adopting a new one reflecting board intent, effective immediately. Additionally, various insurance policies were approved, including property, general liability, commercial auto, law enforcement, umbrella, school leaders coverage, cyber liability, and workers compensation. The shift to CM Regent for insurance is expected to yield significant savings, despite appreciation for the long-standing service of Paul Fischer Insurance.
School District Approves Operations, Personnel, and Bus Safety Agreement Details
The board approved district operations, including an addendum item F which was previously added to the agenda. The addendum pertains to an agreement with Bus Patrol America LLC and an MOU with the West Mifflin Borough Police Department for school bus safety. The borough has agreed to the MOU, pending final solicitor review. Several personnel items were also approved, including professional, non-certified, and athletic personnel.
