Lincoln High School Boys 4x100 Meter Relay Team Crowned Back-to-Back State Champions
The Lincoln High School boys 4x100 meter relay team was recognized for winning the 2026 WIAA 3A state championship. This is their second consecutive state championship in this event. The team comprises Emmanuel Jordan, Eddie Bruner Jr., Casey Williams, and Ramone Jones. They are also the current school record holders at Lincoln High School with a time of 41.58 seconds, making them the first Tacoma school to go under 42 seconds and the 23rd fastest time in state history. The Board of Directors formally acknowledged their achievement.
Silas High School Junior Savannah Hinton Celebrated for State Track and Field Championships
Savannah Hinton, a junior at Silas High School, was recognized for winning two individual state titles at the 2026 WIAA State Track and Field Championships, including the 3A girls 100-meter hurdles and the 3A girls 300-meter hurdles, setting a meet record in the latter. Her performance also contributed to the Silas Rams' third-place team finish. She recorded the fastest 100-meter hurdles time across all divisions (2A-4A) and was part of successful relay teams. The Board of Directors formally recognized her achievements.
Lincoln High School Senior Eddie Brunner Jr. Celebrated as Three-Time State Champion
Eddie Brunner Jr., a senior at Lincoln High School, was recognized as the WIAA 3A boys 400-meter state champion. This marks his third consecutive state championship in the 400-meter event, making him the fastest sprinter in the state for the past three years. He also holds the current school record at Lincoln High School, surpassing a previous record holder. His 400-meter time is ranked fifth all-time in state history. Additionally, his 200-meter time of 20.85 is the second fastest in state history and the fastest outdoors. The Board of Directors formally acknowledged his accomplishments.
Technology Access Foundation Honored with Shining Star Community Partner Award
The Board of Directors recognized the Technology Access Foundation (TAFF) with the June Shining Star Community Partner Award for their significant contributions to supporting students and staff at Boze Elementary School and other schools within Tacoma Public Schools. TAFF's work focuses on expanding access to high-quality STEM and STEAM education, providing professional development, coaching, and guidance for project-based learning. The foundation has been a consistent partner for 12 years, and their commitment extends to supporting programs like Teach 253 to help place more teachers in schools.
Tacoma School Board Approves Multiple Contracts and Agreements for Educational Services and Infrastructure Projects
The Board of Directors considered and approved several contracts and interlocal agreements for the upcoming school year and for special education services. These include agreements with Northwest Seaport Alliance for Maritime 253 workforce development, Character Strong Elementary for SEL curriculum, Overlake Medical Center for special education services, Carpe Diem Academy for increased purchase order authority, Puyallup School District, Federal Way School District, and University Place School District for special education services, Brocks Academy for special education services, Mackin Educational Resources for contract amendment, Renaissance Learning for contract amendment, Rowe Health for special education services, AVID Center for program services, and Organization for Educational Technology and Curriculum (OETC) for Lightspeed Classroom Management software. Additionally, an amendment to a contract with Christensen Inc. for propane fuel services was approved, as was a contract with Puget Sound Educational Service District for McKinney-Vento students, and an interlocal agreement with the Washington State Healthcare Authority for Medicaid Administrative Claiming. Finally, an amendment to a contract with Washington Patriot Construction Company for the Jenny Reed Elementary School modernization project and an amendment to a contract with Lyte Construction for TPS Central Administration Building CAB Improvements Project were approved.
