Corwell Bridge Project Completion Delayed; Wino and Lynen Avenue Paving Set to Begin
Director Bcher reported on the Corwell Bridge project, stating that progress is awaiting county approval of a change order to add two storm basins to fix a road pitch problem and eliminate ponding. Once approved, the basins, curbing, and paving will be completed. This change order has pushed the completion date to July 10th. Additionally, the long-awaited paving project for Wino and Lynen Avenue is moving forward, with DOT approval of specifications. Bids will be sought in the next two weeks, with work expected to begin in late summer or early fall. This is a state-funded project, with engineering costs 85% covered by a state grant.
Car Washes Permitted as Conditional Use in Highway Commercial Zones
Ordinance 2026-14, which amends land use provisions to permit car washes as a conditional use within the highway commercial zone district (specifically along Route 22), was introduced on first reading. The ordinance clarifies that there will be one permitted car wash on each side of Route 22 (westbound and eastbound), specifies limitations regarding adjacent property boundaries and proximity to other car washes, and mandates that only automatic car washes are permitted, not manual ones. The previous version was introduced at the last meeting and sent to the planning board for review, which recommended minor but significant changes.
Mars Avenue Bridge Replacement Project Nears Bidding Phase, Detours Expected
Director Bcher provided an update on the Mars Avenue bridge replacement project over the Rawway River. The bridge specifications and final design are complete, and Green Acres and easement studies are finished. The project is scheduled to go out for bid in the fall and awarded in early December. The construction is planned for a 10-week period starting June 22nd, 2027, aiming for completion before school resumes in September 2027. Traffic studies and detours have been completed, with further meetings planned for emergency services and public transportation. The new bridge will be a single barrel design, replacing the existing three-arch structure, and will attempt to maintain the historical look. Detours are expected to be challenging, particularly for heavy vehicles, and may require constant adjustment.
Municipal Buildings and Parking Lots to Receive Energy-Efficient Lighting Upgrades
