Miami-Dade Considers Funding Feasibility Study for 2035 World Expo Bid
The Board of County Commissioners is considering allocating $1.3 million from the fiscal year 25-26 county budget to the Greater Miami Visitors Bureau to fund a feasibility study for the United States' bid to host the 2035 World Expo in Miami-Dade County. The county mayor or their designee is authorized to execute a grant agreement for these purposes. Holder Partners has been identified as the firm to conduct the feasibility study.
Miami-Dade Approves Eminent Domain for Fisher Island Fuel Farm to Secure Port Operations
The Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved the acquisition of a fuel farm property on Fisher Island through eminent domain. The decision aims to secure the port's fuel supply and protect its vital economic engine. Mayor Cava emphasized that the county would not be held hostage and would do whatever it takes to ensure fuel continues to flow at Port Miami. The approved resolution also includes additional analysis supporting the public necessity of the taking. Commissioner Cohen Higgins proposed an amendment to authorize the county attorney to select outside counsel to assist in the eminent domain proceeding.
