The Somerset County Juneteenth Celebration is scheduled for Thursday, June 18th, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM, with music starting at 4:00 PM. Additionally, Somerville Family Pride Night is planned for Thursday, June 25th, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

New Pedestrian Safety Signage Installed on Main Street

New bilingual signage has been installed on Main Street as part of a pedestrian safety initiative. The signs remind pedestrians to be aware of their surroundings and not look at their phones while crossing or walking. Officer Chudy secured a grant to fund these signs, which were developed in conjunction with the Public Safety Committee.

Somerville Council Introduces Ordinance for Somerset Station Development Speed Limits

The council introduced Ordinance 2806, which amends Schedule 17 to establish speed limits on new public roadways within the Somerset Station development as the borough takes over control of the road network. Discussions included keeping the speed limit at 15 mph on Robson Street from South Bridge to South Davenport, and concerns about incorrect speed limit data on navigation apps like Google Maps.

Jack Schwitzer Recognized for Achieving Eagle Scout Rank

Jack Schwitzer was recognized for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout. A resolution was read commending his exceptional leadership, service, athletics, and academic achievements. His Eagle Scout project involved installing mileage and directional markers and a course map stand at White Oak Park to enhance the cross-country course and honor former coach Bruce Cayfir. He will pursue a degree in finance at Sacred Heart University.

Environmental Commission Discusses Energy Plan, Bike Racks, and Community Events

The Environmental Commission met on June 9th and reviewed survey results for the Community Energy Plan. They also discussed using old parking meter poles for bike racks, formalizing tree lists for different planting areas, and began planning for Community Night Out on August 4th. They will hold their next meeting on July 14th.
