Council Awards Paving Improvement Project Bid to CK Newberry LLC
The council considered awarding bids for the PDBG paving improvement project. The project is located on the north side of 84 between Huffman and Polly and is funded by a $500,000 grant obtained a couple of years ago, supplemented by $750,000 from the fund balance, totaling $1.25 million. The lowest bid received was $1,139,850 from CK Newberry LLC. This bid covers removing existing material, six inches of soil, adding six inches of flex base, and two inches of hot mix asphalt. The council discussed the process of selecting the bid, particularly why the base bid was recommended over an alternate that involved self-removal of materials, which was deemed too costly. The selected contractor, CK Newberry LLC, has a 12-month warranty on the work and has experience with similar projects for TxDOT. The council voted to award the bid to CK Newberry LLC.
