Proclamation Honors Janet Roy Hudson for Lifetime of Service in Education and Housing

Ms. Janet Roy Hudson was honored with a proclamation for her lifetime of dedication, perseverance, and contributions to the city of Sherman. The proclamation detailed her background, including her birth on March 19th, 1936, her education in Sherman ISD and subsequent degrees from Prairie View A&M University and Austin College. Ms. Hudson was recognized as the second African-American educator to complete the master teacher program and dedicated 40 years to education in Sherman ISD, White Rock School District, and White Right ISD. Furthermore, she served for over two decades as a commissioner of the Sherman Housing Authority, working to ensure fair housing opportunities for lower-income families and leaving an indelible mark on the city. Council members expressed deep appreciation for her extensive service.

Specific Use Permit Granted for Auto Sales Dealership

The City Council approved Ordinance Number 6941, granting a Specific Use Permit (SUP) for automotive, motorcycle, boat, or trailer sales (new or used) at 1001 South Sam Rayburn Freeway. Planning Zoning recommended approval. Councilmember Stevenson opposed the approval, citing ongoing issues. The council approved the SUP with one opposition vote.

First Responders Honored with Life-Saving Awards for Fire Rescue

Sherman Fire Rescue and Sherman Police Department personnel were formally recognized for their bravery and decisive action in rescuing two residents from a house fire at 1031 South Crockett on April 19th. The combined efforts of multiple crews, including Captain Sparlin, Engineer Nichols, Firefighter Dooley, Firefighter Clark, Firefighter Hooper, Firefighter Spearman, and Sergeant Ian Odin, ensured the survival of both victims. Battalion Chief Adams commanded the scene, and Engine and Medic crews worked to contain and extinguish the fire. Officer Levi Patton assisted with ambulance transport. Their actions were lauded as exemplary and reflective of the highest traditions of community service.
