School Committee Approves $1.34M Roof Replacement for Hope Elementary
The council ratified a school committee bid award to Maton Service Company Incorporated for $1,342,567 to replace the roof on Hope Elementary School. These funds were previously reallocated from bond funds. The project is contingent upon final signatures on a memorandum of agreement with the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) and awaiting hazardous materials test results. The project is expected to be reimbursed by RIDE at a rate of 35-40%. The school department is also implementing an owner's project manager and setting up a process for future projects.
Highway Rehabilitation Corp Awarded Asphalt Recycling Bid
The council approved awarding a bid for hot in-place asphalt recycling to Highway Rehabilitation Corporation. The bid price is set at $6.07 per square yard for 30,000 to 50,000 square yards, and $5.97 per square yard for quantities over 50,000 square yards.
Resident Calls for Renovation of Historic Meeting House
A resident expressed concern about the deteriorating condition of the old meeting house at one Lincoln Circle, urging the town council to plan for its repair and maintenance as part of the upcoming 300th-anniversary celebration. Town Considers Increasing Liquor Licenses from Four to Five
The council considered a first reading of ordinance 26-04, which proposes to increase the number of available beverage liquor licenses from four to five. Council members discussed that this increase does not guarantee licenses for current applicants and that all future applications will be evaluated based on their merits and specific conditions set by zoning and the council. The public hearing was opened and closed without public comment. The second reading is scheduled for the following month.
