Savannah Water Treatment Plant Undergoes Major Expansion with $146 Million Investment
The city of Savannah, in partnership with Bryan County and Effingham County, is undertaking a significant expansion and upgrade of its industrial and domestic water treatment plant. This project, backed by a $146 million investment through the 2024 state water supply partnership, includes expanding the IND plant, enhancing the raw water pumping system, upgrading water transmission pump stations, and constructing two new water towers. The improvements are aimed at strengthening the city's capacity to deliver safe and reliable water, meeting daily demands, and supporting future growth throughout Savannah and surrounding communities like Pooler, Effingham County, and Port Wentworth. The work, which began with site preparation and framing of chemical feed stations, is designed to modernize infrastructure, increase operational efficiency, and improve system reliability for decades to come, ensuring the water system remains resilient.
