A motion to confirm McCarthy's appointment passed 6-0, and the reappointment of Hewitt passed 5-0 with one abstention.
Saco Election Results Announced, Property Values Adjusted, City Hall Closure Noted
The council received an update on election results, with 4,869 ballots cast representing a 31% turnout among 15,694 registered voters. These results will be certified at a future meeting. The assessing department is adjusting property values to reflect the upward trend in sales prices, with letters being sent to property owners starting June 18th, including an option to schedule a meeting with the assessing department. City Hall will be closed on July 19th for Juneteenth.
B-Soup Transit Begins Construction on Bus Charging Infrastructure at Saco Transportation Center
B-Soup Transit has commenced construction on a project to install state-of-the-art overhead pantographic bus charging infrastructure at the Saco Transportation Center. This construction, scheduled from June 8th to August 2026, will cause temporary impacts to parking and operations at the center. Fire Chief Updates on Emergency Plan, Proposes Ambulance Fund for Training and Equipment
Fire Chief Hamill provided an update on the city's emergency operational plan, which is being updated to align with best practices and guidance from York County Emergency Management and Maine Emergency Management. A draft of the updated plan is expected in two to three weeks for council review and approval. Separately, an ordinance amendment was proposed for the ambulance service to establish an annual educational funding allocation for paramedic and advanced EMT training, and an annual ambulance division equipment reserve fund. The estimated annual cost for training is around $41,000. Agreements for training will likely include a four to five-year commitment from staff.
