Riverton Police Department Extends Axon Technology Contract for 10 Years, Aiming for Enhanced Safety and Cost Savings
The Riverton City Council considered and approved a contract extension with Axon Enterprises Inc. for a new 10-year technology platform agreement. This agreement consolidates existing contracts and incorporates additional equipment and services identified as needs for the police department, including more body-worn cameras, conducted energy devices (tasers), fleet and license plate reader capabilities, additional professional software, and a drone platform designed for confined spaces. The proposal includes transferring the remaining value of current agreements into the new contract, which aims to provide long-term cost certainty with fixed annual payments and scheduled technology refreshes. The estimated savings over 10 years compared to unbundled pricing is approximately $1.18 million. The total commitment for the 10-year contract is $2,547,186.57, with the first year's payment at $239,000.04 and subsequent annual payments of $256,465.17. Council members discussed the long-term commitment, potential cost increases with additional staffing, the benefit of retaining drone equipment, and the importance of officer safety and updated technology.
