DPW Clarifies Stance on Rallies, Reports Positive Contract Negotiations
A representative from the Department of Public Works (DPW) clarified that DPW employees did not organize or participate in any rally, despite receiving support. The representative expressed hope for a swift agreement and affirmed that city workers are happy to serve under the current administration and confident in reaching a fair agreement.
Citizen Alleges Deception, Disrespect, and Lack of Accountability from City Council
Ron McCrae accused the council and administration of deception and disrespecting citizens. He questioned the rule limiting public comments to one speaking turn and five minutes, citing the Open Public Meetings Act and demanding proof of such a rule. McCrae criticized the city for closing a post office, the dismissal of a four-star black general, and ongoing issues with water utility costs. He also highlighted the disparity in salary increases between high-ranking officials and DPW workers, and noted the lack of opposition or diverse viewpoints among council members. McCrae mentioned ongoing issues with speeding and questioned the city's adherence to laws and public input.
New Wi-Fi Service Provider Authorized; Resolutions Address Health Benefits, Contracts, and Housekeeping Matters
Resolution AR 13526 grants Netspeed LLC (goNetspeed) authority to use poles in the public right-of-way to add new Wi-Fi service to the city. This is seen as a positive development offering more internet options for residents. Other resolutions included urging state leaders to implement reforms for public sector employee health benefit premiums, authorizing a non-fair and open contract with Wisdom Media for graphic design, authorizing a hold harmless agreement with the historic Rawway Cemetery for fireworks, and various housekeeping resolutions related to engineering, health fees, tax sale certificates, senior deductions, and overpayments.
City Contracts Arthon (formerly CME) for Engineering Services and Road Improvement Oversight
A contract is being authorized between the city of Rawway and Arthon (formerly CME) for professional engineering services for CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) projects. Arthon previously operated as CME but changed its name to Arthon as required because another company with the name CME was registered in New York. This resolution is to establish the contract under the new company name. Another resolution partners with Arthon to oversee services for the 2025 road improvement project.
